7 Lazy S Cafe opens at the stoplight

Charlie and Kim Smith recently opened a new cafe restaurant at the stoplight, the 7 Lazy S Cafe. It’s located in the old Elle’s Restaurant and Bar/Thermopolis Cafe location at 109 South 6th Street.

The name 7 Lazy S comes from Charlie’s brand when he ran cows.

They serve a traditional American cafe menu. Hours are 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Kim said, “We decided to lease it in the middle of November, so we’re just leasing the building.” They opened the business on November 10.

Kim’s background has been as a waitress her whole life off and on and just for extra money. Kim actually worked at the same location when Marty Orvac previously owned it. Kim said, “I just love it. I love the café part, and I’ve kind of always dreamed of opening one.”

Charlie was born and raised here in Thermopolis. He is a truck driver mechanic for Ryan Brothers Trucking. Kim said, “He’s planning on stopping the mechanic part in April and drive truck part-time. So that was kind of his plan.”

Kim gave some of her plans starting out and said, “We’re open breakfast and lunch, and we’ll continue that through the winter. After the first of the year, we will start seeing about getting the liquor license and opening the bar and maybe instituting at least a couple of dinners. And then by summer, hopefully, have dinners available.”

As they have just started operation Kim said that “They’re doing great. I can’t thank the town of Thermopolis enough for their support by just coming in and supporting our business. It’s been amazing because it’s all really been word of mouth.”

The feedback from customers has been positive. Kim said they tell her, “Great food, the food is hot, tastes great. They’ve missed this kind of food. So this menu is pretty much what Marty had when he was here. So everybody’s just really glad to have something similar back and another option to eat.”
