Some days the pig may bite you

Fair week is always a busy one for us here at the newspaper. We’re out shooting every event that goes on all the way through the Pageant Days parade, fire department open house, Folk Festival and everything in between.

If you were at the pig wrestling the other night you may have seen me covered in slick, wet Bentonite as I shot all the teams from outside the fence.

I thoroughly enjoy shooting the pig wrestling because it really shows how people of all ages can have a terrific time with a pit of mud and a few squealing porcine. When I went through all the pictures, 881 of them to be exact, every single photo showed teams giggling and laughing, having so much fun.

That’s what its all about, right?

Sometimes we get so inundated with everyday life, between work and bills, that we become stuck in that mud. We’re just slogging along, day to day feeling like we’re sinking lower and lower into that mud pit.

We forget to smile, forget to laugh. We’re so tired all we can do is fall into bed every night and force ourselves out every morning.

Maybe what we need is to toss a little piggy in that mud pit so we can remember what life is supposed to be.

You chase that porker, you fall down, you laugh. You work as a team to catch the big pig in life and celebrate as you drop it in the barrel. And then you get to do it tomorrow, too.

Sure, that kind of life can be messy. Some days the pig may bite you.

But in the end, the very end, you can walk away with a smile on your face knowing you laughed and had a great time...even if you are covered in mud.
