The ballots are cast

If you’re like us here at the Independent Record, last night you were anxiously awaiting the General Election results.

This week’s front page gives a look at what our local numbers were.

Some race results were certainly a surprise, while others went as predicted, but the one thing they all have in common is that they’re over. All of the disagreements over who is best for the town, county and state can be put to rest. Mind you, this isn’t something that will happen overnight. Those voted in will be cheered by some, while also being scrutinized and criticized for the decisions they make in the coming years.

It can be attributed to human nature to want failure for those we don’t support, but keep in mind their failure can also mean a continued decline for our community and division among the people. We all got our say in who we think is best for the positions, and whether those people won or not we need to all get behind them. There are some serious issues that were brought to light in the months leading up to the General, as well as the Primary; issues that affect us all, not just one party or the other.

For those who chose to put their names out there this past election year, even if you weren’t elected it shows you care enough about this community to want to be involved and make a difference. Hopefully that desire in infectious and spreads through the rest of the town to bring about some positive change after this rough patch.
