Lady Cats showing potential

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team traveled to Cody last weekend for the Border Wars Tournament between Wyoming and Montana.

Friday saw the ladies taking on Miles City, Mont., and Glendive, Mont., while Saturday play was against Hardin, Mont. and Billings Central.

"Although we didn't come home with a win this weekend," coach Shannon Hill said, "our team played so much better than we played against Powell last Tuesday. We started to play as a team and our defense picked up immensely.

"We still need to find our consistency, but the growth of this team within the week was fun to watch. When they let loose and just play, they can do great things."

Against Miles City, the girls lost three straight, 20-25, 15-25 and 19-25.

Kelly Johnson had six kills against Miles City, 13 digs and two blocks. Ashley McPhie had four aces and 13 digs and Dani Jo Pebbles had 13 assists.

The team won one of four against Glendive, 12-25, 28-26, 20-25 and 17-25.

Johnson dropped six kills against Glendive along with 14 digs. McPhie had 10 digs and three blocks. Sesi Jensen stepped up with 17 digs and three aces, while Tatum Vialpado added seven blocks and Pebbles had 23 set assists.

The Bobcats also won a single match against Hardin, 19-25, 27-25, 16-25 and 20-25.

Johnson had another great game with six kills and 10 digs. McPhie had seven kills and 11 digs. Jensen added six kill and 10 digs and Pebbles racked up another 17 set assists.

The girls dropped all three against Billings Central, 10-25, 18-25 and 8-25.

Jensen had five kills and seven digs against Billings and Elisa Weber had seven digs and one ace.

"I think everyone watching can see this team's potential," Hill said. "One ref even stated our team, 'plays with a lot of heart', which is what will cause this team to continue to grow throughout the season and peak at the right time."
