Several Bobcats headed to state track

The personal records just keep coming for our Thermopolis High School Track and Field Team, with the girls team seeing 14 at the 3A East Regional competition at Douglas last Friday and Saturday and the boys making seven.

Coach Ernie Mecca noted some of the personal records came during the preliminary races on Friday night and others were on Saturday. He added with the weather as terrible as it was, it was good to see the tracksters really dig in when they're cold and wet and come away with 21 PR's.

Girls making personal records include: Ashley McPhie with a time of 20.37 in the 100 meter hurdles, a time of 55.89 in the 300 meter hurdles and a distance of 30'0" in the triple jump; Dayna Sandberg with a time of 30.02 in the 200 meters; Sequoia Fishbaugh with a time of 32.27 in the 200 meters; Haley McDermott with a second place time of 2:27.63 in the 800 meters; McKenna Bomengen with a fourth place time of 2:31.85 in the 800 meters; Olivia Weyer with a time of 2:46.78 in the 800 meters and a seventh place height of 8'6" in the pole vault; Jazmen Jensen with a time of 2:53.60 in the 800 meters, Kaylee DeVries with a time of 18.96 in the 100 meter hurdles; Sesi Jensen with an eighth place distance of 14'7.75" in the long jump; and Halie Weber with a distance of 27'5" in the shot put.

The 4x100 team of Sandberg, Aime Robinson, Kaylee DeVries and Brianna DeVries had a PR with a seventh place time of 56.23.

For personal records on the boys team it was: Blake Williams with a time of 12.55 in the 100 meters and a seventh place height of 10'6" in the pole vault; Jaxson Jensen with a time of 26.53 in the 200 meters and a 14th place distance of 34'1" in the triple jump; Kolby George with a third place time of 11:06.40 in the 3200 meters; Sean Miller with a distance of 37'1.25" in the triple jump; and Logan Cole with an eighth place distance of 113'4" in the discus.

Next up is the State Championship May 17-19 in Casper. Ten girls and seven boys have qualified for state. Among them are Bomengen in the 800 meter preliminaries and 3200 meters, Tahja Hunt in the 3200, George in the 3200, McDermott in the pole vault, 400 meter preliminaries and 800 meter preliminaries, Weyer in the pole vault, Sandberg in the 200 meter preliminaries, Sesi Jensen in the long jump and triple jump, Kaylee DeVries in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries, Williams in the pole vault, Cole in the discus and shot put, Robinson in the 300 meter hurdle preliminaries, McPhie in the 300 meter hurdle preliminaries, Ethan Becher in the 300 meter hurdle preliminaries and Shumway in the high jump.

The 3200 meter relay teams of McDermott, Hunt, Aspen Jensen and Bomengen, and Ethan Becher, Cullen Becher, Miller and George will also compete.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Brianna DeVries, Sandberg, Robinson and Aspen Jensen placed fifth with a time of 4:38.36. The 4x800 relay team of McDermott, Hunt, Aspen Jensen and Bomengen placed first with a time of 10:38.22.

The girls team placed fourth with 81 points.

Kolby George - 1600 meters fourth 5:05.09

Logan Shumway - high jump eighth 5'4", triple jump 15th 33'8.5"

Jarron Mortimore - high jump ninth 5'4"

Sean Miller - triple jump 10th 37'1.25"

Logan Cole - shot put fifth 42'11.75"

The 4x100 meter relay team of Chance Huffstetler, Logan Cole, Blake Williams and Jarron Mortimore placed seventh with a time of 47.73. The 4x400 relay team of Ethan Becher, Kolby George, Mortimore and Sean Miller placed fifth with a time of 3:41.91. The 4x800 realy team of Ethan Becher, Cullen Becher, Miller and George placed fourth with 8:41.65.

The boys team placed eighth with 30.75 points.
