Lights On cribbage tourney fundraiser

Thermopolis Middle School Lights On will host its first ever cribbage tournament on Friday, March 16 at the middle school gymnasium and commons area, beginning at 5 p.m.

Elisa Daniels said the tournament is open to everyone, no matter what their skill level in the game. Boards will be available but people can bring their own if they chooses. Daniels recommends those bringing boards make sure they’re labeled so they don’t go missing.

There will be divisions for students and adults, with first, second and third place prizes in each. Daniels added they will be following the basic rules of cribbage, and there will be referees on hand. There will also be a learning table and rules will be distributed.

There is no registration for the tourney, but donations are requested. Registration can be done via the Lights On Afterschool HSCSD #1 by clicking on the “Events” tab and the “Get Tickets” button on the tournament listing. Daniels said they will also be prepared for registration the day of the event.

As to why they’re having the event, Daniels said there are a lot of older people in the community who like to play games, but this is also a chance to make connections and teach those of the younger generation.

In addition to the cribbage games, there will also be a light dinner available. Tables for other games such as checkers and chess will be set up for people who are not in a cribbage game.
