Still time to join EMT class

Those looking to help others in need beyond just basic first aid can still sign up for EMT classes beginning Nov. 6. Classes are at the fire hall every Monday and Thursday, 6-10 p.m., with some all-day Saturday classes, and the final class on April 2.

EMT Jim Andreen said the education provided in the classes includes information about the human body and how to treat illnesses and injury. Those attending must be CPR certified, though certification can be done through the classes, and pass a background check.

There is a course cost of $200, which covers costs of books as well as online access to the national registry study guide. Those who take and pass the national registry will have their EMT certification honored by states that recognize the registry.

There are currently eight EMTs that run consistently on crews, on 12-hour shifts. Those who take and pass the EMT classes will be able to run on the crews. For more information on the classes, contact Andreen at 921-8147.
