Lady Cats headed to regionals

Lady Bobcat volleyball had a pair of tough matches last weekend, dropping three against Douglas on Friday and three against Buffalo on Saturday.

“We had some tough matches this weekend,” coach Shannon Hill said. “Douglas is a very tough team with a really good offense. We needed to step up our play and just didn’t quite get there.”

Against the Lady Bearcats, Mary Ryan posted five kills and one block in the 25-15, 25-9, 25-13 losses.

In Buffalo, Hill said the girls would dig themselves into a hole and then go on a five or six point run, get ahead by a couple of points and then, unfortunately, let the Lady Buffs go on a run of their own.

“Buffalo is very beatable for us,” she said, “but we need to be confident in ourselves and be competitive, so that is what we are focusing on this week – being consistent and competitive.”

Ryan had an additional three kills and one ace against Buffalo. Haley McDermott tacked on 14 assists, Sesi Jensen had 10 digs and three blocks, and Kelly Johnson rounded things out with four kills.

The Cats lost in three, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17.

The girls are heading to Regionals in Newcastle on Friday and Saturday with their first game against the Douglas Lady Bearcats, Friday at 2:15 p.m.
