Lady Cats hit the road

Although the Lady Bobcat volleyball team lost both of their matches last week, head coach Shannon Hill says she is still seeing a lot of improvement from the girls heading into Regionals next week.

Tuesday, the girls were up against Worland, dropping the match in three, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-20. Wednesday saw losses to Rawlins, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19.

"Compared to the first time we played both of these teams, we showed a lot of improvement on both offense and defense," Hill said.

They have been focusing a lot on finding the holes in their opponent's defense and the hitters finally found them in the matches against Worland and Rawlins.

Hill added the girls are playing somewhat consistently, not giving up, but keeping up with each team throughout most of the matches.

"Both Worland and Rawlins are very tough teams," Hill said, "but las week proved that we can ply with these tough teams, we just need to step up our game a little more to take a full match."

The Lady Cats are still struggling to find consistency in their offense, however, and Hill indicated that will consist of the hitters not being afraid to swing.

"We are too comfortable taking the easy way out and when we tip or push or roll shots against teams that have a strong offense, that's when we get beat," she said.

Sesi Jensen, Kelly Johnson and Mary Ryan, all in the front row, have done a nice job putting up big blocks, and setter Haley McDermott does a nice job of speeding up the offense as well as being a threat in the front row.

The team will hit the road to face Douglas on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday, while the freshmen will have their end of the year tournament in Douglas on Saturday.

"We head to Regionals next week," Hill said, "so it would be nice to get a conference win to end the season."
