Guyon appointed to Wyo. Tourism Board

Wyoming Dinosaur Center Executive Director Angie Guyon found out the last week of February she was appointed to a three-year term with the Wyoming Tourism Board. She takes over as the representative for District 5, which includes Hot Springs, Big Horn, Park and Washakie counties.

Sandy Newsome formerly held the seat, though her term was up. Guyon said she applied for the seat, noting it was a simple process though letters of recommendation help. She received a letter from Wyoming Secretary of State Ed Murray. Though she applied for it, she said she didn’t think she would receive the appointment.

Guyon explained her duties include visiting Travel & Tourism meetings in the counties within the district to see what they are doing in regard to tourism and bringing people here, and report that information to the state board. She also reports information from the state to the various Travel & Tourism organizations, to ensure everyone has the same goal.

Tourism is Wyoming’s second leading industry, Guyon pointed out, and something she values greatly as 90 percent of the dinosaur center’s revenue is from tourists.

On March 9 and 10 Guyon attended an orientation and meeting in Casper, which allowed her to meet other board members and others in the travel and tourism fields. For the majority of the meetings, teleconference is used, though Guyon said they also might do some video conferencing.
