Freedom of speech for everyone

The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees each of us Freedom of Speech.

We may not always agree with what one another says but the ability to speak  gives voice to differing opinions and allows for the free exchange of ideals.  Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a country where simply by voicing your ideals you were harassed or even jailed or killed?  That scenario is true for many countries.

On Friday I replaced yet another candidate yard sign that had been damaged by vandals.   Today I found that sign also destroyed.  I can only assume that whoever is doing this believes in socialism. They do not believe in every citizen’s right guaranteed by the constitution to free speech, they do not believe in the right of each individual to support a candidate of their own choosing.  We must agree with them or are not allowed to speak and the way they are silencing others is to destroy signs of the candidate they don’t like. Four so far!

It is also clear that whoever they are they also do not believe in free elections, another tenet of socialism is socialist nations tend to run a candidate and control the outcome of elections.  How does one ensure fair elections when no effort is made to ensure only eligible voters vote or when only one candidate can put up signs?

Whether you or I agree or disagree with any given candidate, I support your right to pick the candidate whom you will support. The proper way for every citizen to state our support is in the voting booth not in vandalism. Freedom of speech and fair elections is the way we begin to uphold our American Constitution and our way of life.
