Bobcat golf season has begun

Both varsity and junior varsity golf began last week. Varsity traveled to Riverton for their matches on Aug. 18 and Aug. 19, while junior varsity had two home matches on Aug. 18 and Aug. 19.

Coach Jacob Smith said varsity had a good first showing.

"The weather wasn't very good, but the team pulled off pretty well in their first tournament scores," he said. "Hudson Roling logged another top 10 finish. Caleb DeCroo, Logan Barthlolomew and Jake Maksin all had ups and downs in their rounds."

As for junior varsity, Smith said the first tournament was a developmental tournament.

"Our hope was that it would serve as a good learning experience for players who normally would not be ready to travel to competition," he said. "The plan for the day was that each foursome would have a coach with them to help with decision-making, rules, etiquette and encouragement."

Smith said players would play with a coach for the first nine holes, then play a nine-hole tournament after, as time allowed.

"While we didn't have enough coaches for every group, all of the 30 developing golfers had a great time, learned a ton and finished the day excited about playing golf," he said. "I hope to grow that tournament in the future and have gotten a ton of positive feedback from players and coaches alike."

Next week, varsity heads to Cody for a (mostly) 3A competition, Smith said.

"We should be taking a full team and I'm excited to see how we compete now that we have a week of practice under our belts," he said.

Scores are as follows:

Varsity: Hudson Rolling – 159; Caleb DeCroo – 177; Jake Maksin – 185; Logan Bartholomew – 223; and Kaili Johanson – 246

Junior varsity: Austin Ireland – 111; Justin Jeffs – 113; Jaydon Christiansen – 124; and Cameron Cole – 101
