On the Record July 21

On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Correction

According to the On The Record report from the July 14 edition, Tyrone Potts was taken into custody for driving under the influence on July 5. However, Potts was not arrested, and the incident referenced was only in regard to an unnamed driver who was discovered to have a suspended license. The Independent Record apologizes for this error.

9:26 a.m. Grass fire at mile marker 121-122.in Wind River Canyon.

Sheriff’s department

Wednesday, July 13

2 p.m. Deputy was called to perform an assist with Department of Family Services.

6:17 p.m. Report of a westbound semi that had an unsecured door. A deputy was unable to make contact.

10:45 p.m. Caller from Owl Creek believed someone was in his yard, and there were lights shining in his window. The property owner and the deputy were unable to locate anyone or a source of the light.

11:22 p.m. Report of business with an open door. Upon arrival, a deputy was informed nothing was amiss, and it was simply the crew working on items for the next day.

Thursday, July 14

8:42 a.m. Report of a brown lab at large on Highway 20 North. A deputy was unable to locate the animal.

10:18 p.m. Request for assistance from Wyoming Highway Patrol at mile marker 129 on Highway 20 South. William Piper was arrested for alleged driving under the influence, driving under suspension, no seat belt and no insurance.

Friday, July 15

8:57 a.m. Report of horses at Lane 3. Upon deputy’s arrival, the owner was gathering up the animals back where they belong.

7:17 p.m. Caller requested information on any rules regarding drones flying over property.

8:41 p.m. Report of a pedestrian who was staggering, though didn’t appear to be in the highway. A deputy was unable to locate the subject.

9:05 p.m. Report from mile marker 133 on Highway 20 North, of a white Yukon driving all over the place. Kenneth Paulson was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and no turn signal.

Saturday, July 16

11:18 p.m. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad crossing gate was not operating, as the arm was down while no train was present. BNSF was notified of the issue and addressed it.

Sunday, July 17

10:12 a.m. A call was received from Delta Airlines. The business believed they were in possession of a suitcase belonging to someone in Thermopolis. Calls to the suspected suitcase owner were not returned.

Tuesday, July 12

5:54 p.m. Report of an altercation. When an officer arrived, the people contacted said everything was OK.

7:50 p.m. A local business reported having issues with a customer that might have grabbed an employee. The subject denied the accusation, but was still removed.

Wednesday, July 13

12:36 a.m. Complainant could hear banging and coughing sounds. An officer was unable to locate anyone making the sounds.

11:13 a.m. Report of tree branches on a sidewalk. The property owner agreed to pick them up. An unrelated call also came in regarding a nuisance yard.

3:25 p.m. Report of three dogs running at large. An officer was unable to locate the animals.

6:33 p.m. Two dogs running at large were impounded, but licensed. The owner picked up the animals.

11:16 p.m. A dog was reported running at large, but it was not located.

Thursday, July 14

11:13 a.m. Complainant reported a caller who told him he would be arrested unless he paid $850. The nature of the fraud was explained to the complainant, and it was advised he keep an eye on his credit.

3:23 p.m. Report of a nuisance yard. A letter was sent to the owner.

6:09 p.m. Caller was exploring options for having someone evicted, and was told he would have to pursue a civil action.

9:16 p.m. Caller was concerned about the well being of a dog barking in a parked vehicle. The vehicle had left before officers arrived.

10:15 p.m. Report of a missing person. The subject was found, and told to contact his mother.

10:30 p.m. Report of an unattended toddler. The child had already been taken in when officers arrived.

Friday, July 15

12:17 a.m. Report of unusual noise from a home. A responding officer was unable to hear anything.

4:57 p.m. Caller reported seeing an older male in a vehicle who appeared disoriented. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

7;14 p.m. Report of a dog at large. The owner was contacted, and responded to pick up the animal.

8:08 p.m. Dogs at large were reported. The owner was contacted and picked them up.

Saturday, July 16

11:30 a.m. Caller reported an electric outlet cover in Candy Jack Park was vandalized.

6;12 p.m. Report of a dog at large, though it later returned home.

9:31 p.m. Complainant reported a male subject appeared intoxicated and was making threats. An officer was unable to locate the subject.

9:55 p.m. Report of loud music. The music had abated before officers arrived.

10:50 p.m. Report of a barking dog. While en route, an officer received a call that the owner took the dog inside.

11:02 p.m. An empty wheelchair was found in the State Park, and was placed under a nearby shelter.

Sunday, July 17

12:55 a.m. Report of fireworks being set off, though an officer was unable to determine the source.

1:08 a.m. Caller reported seeing suspicious persons. An officer was unable to locate them.

1:50 a.m. Report of an intoxicated subject who seemed to have aggressive tendencies. An officer was unable to locate the subject.

6:48 a.m. An officer saw an open door on a building. The custodial person was contacted, and would take care of it.

4:44 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle was following him through the canyon, driving all over. The vehicle could not be located.

4:56 p.m. A subject was found intoxicated in the State Park. Jesse Brantley was arrested for alleged use of park facilities under the influence.

6:09 p.m. Report of an animal chained to a fire hydrant for a long time. The animal was gone when an officer arrived.

7:41 p.m. Report of a door being broken in. A responding officer noted there was nobody in the home, and the owner said nothing was out of place.

Monday, July 18

6:11 a.m. Report of a dog at large. The owner was contacted, and picked up the animal.

11:09 a.m. Complainant called about a barking dog. The owner agreed to take care of the dog, but was also contacted in reference to the dog not being licensed.

2:28 p.m. A subject said a number of calls had been received, in which the caller would hang up. The complainant was advised to change the phone number.

7:16 p.m. Report of an older subject providing a juvenile with cigarettes.

Birth

Jade Marilyn Rose Bate was born Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Josie and Joshua Bate of Worland, Wyo.

She weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 19.75 inches long.

Grandparents are James and Kristy Taylor of Thermopolis and Marilyn and Kerry Bate of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tyler Mead and Hope Gebes, both of Thermopolis.
