Dr. Jeb Schenck, award-winning photographer, will lead an outdoor photography workshop/field trip, Friday, Aug. 5.

The workshop is designed for adults who want to improve their skills in photographing outdoor scenes and wildlife. The field trip will begin at 7 a.m. and go sunrise to sunset so that participants can get the broadest range of light. It will include some of the area’s outstanding sites — Wind River Canyon, Hot Springs State Park, Legend Rock State Historic Site and upper Grass Creek.

The workshop covers technical issues of digital cameras, using light and shadow, correcting exposure problems, shooting panoramas, controlling depth of field and focus, mastering close-ups and perspective.

Schenck also discusses issues related to wildlife — how to locate them, as well as safety precautions and environmental issues.

Schenck is a national award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in Time, Money, Forbes and many airline in-flight magazines. His interest in landscapes and adventure photography have taken him repeatedly to places renown for rugged beauty — Patagonia, Peru, Bolivia, Alaska, Scotland, China, Tibet, Nepal and Iceland.

In 1988, he served as official photographer for a Mt. Everest expedition, and his images were widely seen by millions when broadcast on CNN and ABC news in one of the first satellite uplinks to transmit images. These nationally broadcast images were the result of field-testing one of the very first digital cameras for camera manufacturer Canon.

His adventure photography has also been used in a number of outdoor product catalogs. Schenck has also produced several limited edition books, one on the hot springs in Thermopolis and others on the high Andes of Peru and Patagonia.

Schenck served as a teacher in Thermopolis schools for more than 30 years. He has taught photography since 1975 from high school through college levels and routinely conducts adult workshops.

The workshop is sponsored by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation to support growth in Wyoming arts and artists. Fee is $125; space is limited. More details can be found at http://www.hsglf.org, or contact Schenk at knowa2@gmail.com.
