Bobcat tracksters conquer cold weather in Riverton

The Bobcats saw plenty of State qualifying times and distances when they headed to Riverton for the Roy Peck Invite Saturday, April 16.

The team of Jules Ward, Chandra Maddock, Maggie Ryan and Haley McDermott qualified with their first place time of 10:34.68 in the 4x800 meter relay.

Elizabeth Rhodes broke a couple personal career records, posting a seventh place time of 30.12 in the 200 meters and a ninth place time of 14.05 in the 100 meters.

The girls team won fourth overall, with 71 points.

On the boys side, Tyler Cornwell, Cody Bjorhus, Domanic Jensen and Chandler Maddock qualified with the first place time of 45.26 in the 4x100 meter relay. Jensen and Maddock were also on the 4x800 relay team with Cullen Becher and Ethan Becher, all of whom qualified with a first place time of 8:55.29.

Bjorhus broke his personal record in the 100 meters with a second place time of 11.31. Ethan Becher broke his record in the 300 hurdles with the fourth place time of 46.09. Cameron Igou now has a personal record of 16 ' 11.5" in the long jump, which earned him a first place finish, and Logan Meier set two personal records with a 19th place time of 12.66 in the 100 meters and a 22nd place time of 26.79 in the 200 meters.

The boys team also won fourth overall, with 73 points.

Coach Ernie Mecca noted the days was "cold and miserable," but getting students qualified in the 4x800 meter relay was one of the goals for the weekend. Also with regard to the weather, he noted the Pole Vault was cancelled due to the cold and wind.

Mecca was impressed with Makayla George, who won 27 points for the team, and noted Jacob Hart - who had the potential to win another two events - was out with a leg injury.

The Riverton Twilight meet was rescheduled for April 26, and upcoming meets include the Wyoming Track Classic at Casper for qualifying students on April 29 at and the Kelly Walsh Invite at Casper April 30.
