Lady Cats head to Riverside

The Lady Cats fought hard against Rocky Mountain in Friday's game but in the end they were edged out 37-43.

The girls had 11 turnovers in the first half of the game and only five in the second half.

According to Coach Cory Sova, the Lady Cats struggled during the first half. "To the girls' credit they battled back in the second half. There was just too much of a deficit to make up on the road," said Sova.

Korey Smith led the team in points netting 12 points total. Randi Elisson was close behind with nine points. Ashlynn Weber made four points and Jessica Schierkolk three. Melissa and Jules Ward both made two points each. Ellison had 10 rebounds, made five of seven free throws and stole the ball four times. Smith made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. McDermott had six defensive rebounds and four steals. Jules Ward grabbed five rebounds and three steals. Weber had five offensive rebounds.

Saturday's home game against Shoshoni was very close with Shoshoni taking the win from the Lady Cats 22-25.

Shoshoni's size proved to be difficult, but the Lady Cat's defense kept them in the game.

According to Sova, both teams had a hard time scoring with neither team being able to hole the ball. "We had quite a few shots that looked like they were going to drop but it wasn't to be," said Sova.

The Lady Cats tied the game midway through the fourth quarter. They had a turnover here and there that hurt them according to Sova.

Shoshoni made it to the free throw line 21 times while the Lady Cats made it only four times the entire game. "The girls also had plenty attempts at field goals, but many did not convert," said Sova.

Elisson led the game with nine points; McDermott scored five points. Melissa Ward and Weber both scored four points. Melissa Ward had five rebounds and three steals. Ellison stole the ball three times. Jules Ward had five rebounds. Schierkolk had four rebounds, while McDermott grabbed three and led with three assists.

This week the Lady Cats will play Riverside for the first time this season. It will be a conference road game and Riverside has been playing pretty well according to Sova. "We will have to put together a solid game and must shoot the ball better," Said Sova.

On Saturday the girl's head back up north to play Greybull for the second time in just as many weeks. "It was a real battle the first time and we will have to be at the top of our game as they are playing very well," said Sova.

The girls are looking forward to the rematch. This will be a special night with both teams promoting cancer awareness month in a "pink out" game. "This is a great way to use high school athletics to fight for a cause that effects all of us at various times in life," Sova said.
