Andre Bohren concert Oct. 22

Andre Bohren, classical pianist headquartered in New Orleans, will present a classical piano concert, Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Hot Springs County School District Auditorium.

Bohren is a lifelong musician with eclectic tastes. His early obsessions were with Peruvian flutes and 1950’s rock, followed by classical piano and then syncopated funk. At the age of 16, he performed Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue” with the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra as featured piano soloist. He toured the United States and Europe with his father, American roots musician Spencer Bohren, for several years. He also founded the eclectic funk-rock band, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes.

Tickets for the concert are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, with $1 off if purchased in advance. Students are free. Advance tickets are available at Broadway Bygones, 535 Broadway St.

Bohren spent nearly a decade focusing on piano. He studied under Dr. Janet Ahlquist for five years, another two years under Dr. John Murphy at Loyola University. He will be playing pieces by Mozart, Liszt, Schubert, Scarlotti and Mily Malakirev, a Russian composer who influenced Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky.

The concert is sponsored by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation with a grant from the Hot Springs County Education Endowment and the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and National Endowment for the Arts.

This is the fifth year that Thermopolis has held October Community Arts Month activities, in tandem with National Arts & Humanities Month.
