On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record's policy that all people arrested or cited under the "Accidents," "Sheriff's office" or "Police calls" in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Fire Department

Friday, August 21

12:10 p.m. Fire fighters responded to a grass fire near mile marker 7 on Highway 120.

Sheriff's Department

Tuesday, August 18

12:23 p.m. A possible drunk driver was reported driving on Highway 20 south of town. Because a deputy was not in the area, the information was passed on to the Shoshoni Police Department and Fremont County.

Thursday, August 20

1:54 p.m. While at the Dollar Store, someone found an envelope with cash and a driver's license and brought it to the police department. A deputy received the items and has locating the owner.

Saturday, August 22

6:26 p.m. Someone reported rolling their vehicle earlier in the day. The driver had already moved the vehicle but wanted to have the incident on record in the case landowner property damage was reported.

Police Department

Wednesday, August 19

1:07 p.m. An individual staying in a local motel reported bed bugs to motel management and reported aggressive behavior from the person. The reporting party requested an officer's presence while moving out of the hotel and a number for a public health office.

9:19 p.m. An accident was reported at 510 Park Street when a vehicle was traveling through a drive-thru as another vehicle was backing out of a parking spot. An officer reported to the scene and filed a state accident report.

Thursday, August 20

8:35 p.m. Several people and a child in a stroller were reported riding in the back up a pickup truck. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Friday, August 21

7:18 a.m. Officers responded to the 1000 block of Clark Street for the unattended death of a 68-year-old male. No foul play was suspected and the death appeared to be from natural causes.

12:19 p.m. A homeowner reported damage to their air conditioning unit which was apparently shot by a BB gun. A juvenile was identified as the guilty party and payments to the homeowner were arranged.

6:25 p.m. A white passenger car speeding through an apartment parking area was reported. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle but scheduled extra patrol for the area.

Saturday, August 22

12:33 a.m. After a report of two individuals smoking marijuana in a vehicle while driving, officers located one individual, a 19-year-old female, who was on probation and brought her to the law enforcement center to submit a urinalysis.

4:19 p.m. An accident was reported after a white four-door vehicle hit a light pole on the 500 block of Broadway. No injuries were reported and a state accident report was submitted.

Monday, August 24

9:38 a.m. A hit and run accident was reported occurring over the weekend. A state accident report was submitted but no leads were identified.

4:17 a.m. A probation parole officer reported an individual fleeing and possibly drinking and driving. A description of the individual and vehicle were recorded but officers were unable to locate the person or vehicle.

8:09 p.m. Damage was reported to a vehicle when the owner found apparent key marks in the paint. An officer responded. The incident is still under investigation.

Circuit Court

Patrick Dewayne Little's sentence was reissued after his probation revocation hearing on August 24. A fine of $1,130, sentence of 169 days in jail, 153 days suspended, and one year of supervised probation were reinstated with credit for 16 days in jail.

District Court

Joshua L. Hillyard appeared before the court on August 3 and was found guilty of the felony charges of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession with intent to deliver a schedule II substance, methamphetamine.

Hillyard was sentenced to a term with the Wyoming Department of Corrections for a period no less than three years nor more than five years with credit for 219 days, supervised probation for five years, completion of an outpatient treatment program, court technology fees of $20, civil legal service fee of $20, Wyoming Crime Victims' Compensation Fund assessment of $300, State of Wyoming ASI/ASAM evaluation reimbursement of $75, and State of Wyoming Public Defender Attorney fees of $300.

Ryan Russell Webster appeared before the court on August 3 and was found guilty of the felony charge of Wrongfully Concealing. Webster was sentenced to a term with the Wyoming Department of Corrections for a period of no less than six years nor more than ten years with credit for 299 days, court technology fee of $10, State of Wyoming ASI/ASAM evaluation reimbursement of $75, and State of Wyoming Public Defender Attorney fee of $500.

Mara Cile Jennings was born Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Bobbi and Bryce Jennings of Thermopolis.

She weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Willow Rain Moore was born Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Rebecca and Travis Moore of Thermopolis.

She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 19 inches long.

Grandparents are Jim and Judy Mills of Fort Laramie, Wyo. and Kit and Trenda Moore of Thermopolis, Wyo.

Ember Spence was born Friday, August 14, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Mickey and Justin Spence of Thermopolis.

She weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Terry and Crystal Jackman and Tracy Bond, all of Thermopolis.

Adopt-a-Pet

Pets available for adoption at the Hot Springs Veterinary Clinic include a five-month-old dachshund-mix dog named "Charlie". He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, gets along with kids and other animals, and has a very sweet personality.
