Fire Department

Wednesday, August 12

3:17 p.m. Fire fighters responded to a grass fire started by lightning on Missouri Flats Road. The fire was burning near homes but appeared to be moving away from structures. The fire was contained to approximately three acres in size and caused no property damage or injuries.

4:20 p.m. Fire fighters responded to a downed powerline at the Fountain of Youth RV Park .

Monday, August 17

4:10 p.m. A grass fire was reported near mile marker 142

Hwy 20 North. Fire fighters responded but the fire was being monitored by a landowner.

Sheriff's Department

Wednesday, August 12

8:57 p.m. Deputies arrested Darren Dumas at the Days Inn for a Hot Springs County warrant regarding a felony charge.

Thursday, August 13

1:46 a.m. An individual requested assistance lifting another individual in the home. Deputies arrived and assisted the downed individual and gave information for future assistance. No hospital assistance was needed.

11:15 a.m. Someone reported llamas out near roadways. A deputy arrived and drove the livestock back to the originating pasture.

2:07 p.m. A family member requested a welfare check on an individual with diabetes who was in a life threatening condition. Deputies located the individual in Worland.

Sunday, August 16

1:02 p.m. A medical emergency was reported when family members went fishing and Harold Wayne Ward, 73, left on his four-wheeler to put up hunting blinds and did not return. Family found Ward several miles up Antelope Creek Road. Deputies arrived to the scene and found Ward deceased upon arrival.

11:03 p.m. A deputy assisted Richard S. Beckman, 54, with his motorcycle at Mac's Bar and recommended he not drive because he was intoxicated. Beckman insisted on driving his motorcycle and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

Monday, August 17

1:36 p.m. Five male hikers (ages mid-thirties, 21, 16, 16, 15) were reported missing after failing to return on Sunday from a camping trip. After a coordinated effort with the Hot Springs County Sheriff's Department, Sky Aviation of Worland, a local government trapper, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Hot Springs County Search and Rescue, Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department, and citizen assists, the campers were located and, at approximately 9:30 p.m., walked out of the canyon on the South Fork of Owl Creek where they were stranded. After arriving back where vehicles were parked, the campers were fed and did not require any medical attention.

Police Department

Tuesday, August 11

9:25 a.m. Someone reported finding a plant that they thought could be marijuana. An officer picked up the plant and determined it was a weed and disposed of it.

3:06 p.m. An abandoned vehicle in a residential area was reported. An officer located the vehicle and contacted the owner. The owner agreed to move the vehicle.

8:26 p.m. A vehicle with no plates was reported as abandoned by the railroad tracks. An officer located the vehicle and attempted to contact the owner but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was tagged as abandoned and was towed at a later date.

10:00 p.m. Someone reported loud music coming from a neighboring residence. An officer responded but the music had already been turned down.

Wednesday, August 12

9:32 a.m. A dog was reported roaming the Blair's parking lot. The dog had been picked up in the same location the day before. An officer picked up the dog and issued the owner a citation for dog at large.

12:20 p.m. Someone reported a dog left in a hot vehicle. An officer responded and found the windows down and water left in the vehicle, and had no concern for the welfare of the dog.

4:00 p.m. An accident was reported when a minivan rolled from a parking lot into another parked vehicle. An officer responded and filed a state accident report.

6:18 p.m. Someone reported people in a vehicle playing excessively loud music. An officer responded and asked the people to keep their music down.

Thursday, August 13

11:29 a.m. A brown lab was reported tied up in a yard with no water and barking for over two hours. An officer responded to the location and contacted the owner who rectified the situation.

1:21 p.m. Officers arrested Robert Richter II, 35, for a Hot Springs County warrant for larceny.

7:32 p.m. An individual reported issues with a person stalking them at their place of work. The person spoke to their supervisor and the harassing party was asked to leave and was subsequently served with a notice of trespass for the business.

Friday, August 14

4:14 p.m. Someone reported a person driving through a mobile home park taking pictures of vehicles and license plates. An officer located the driver and discovered the person was taking pictures of example vehicles they were interested in purchasing.

6:21 p.m. Paint thrown on an individual's fence was reported as vandalism. An officer responded to the residence and found paint on approximately 10 planks causing approximately $20 in damage. No suspects have been identified.

6:45 p.m. A report was made of a dog left in a hot vehicle for several hours and dripping with sweat. An officer responded to the scene and found the dog in the vehicle with windows down, parked in the shade, and water available. The owner of the dog arrived and the officer determined the dog was not in danger.

Saturday, August 15

7:07 a.m. A dog with a flourescent orange harness and no tags was reported running at large. The animal was located and impounded.

4:06 p.m. A concerned citizen reported overhearing someone cursing and talking in a loud, threatening manner. An officer located the individual who was having an argument over the phone and asked them to keep it down.

10:54 a.m. Someone reported several items stolen from their vehicle. No suspects have been identified.

Sunday, August 16

1:28 p.m. A red truck was reported hitting a vehicle and driving away. An officer located the driver of the truck who was unaware they had hit the other vehicle. Insurance information was exchanged for damage purposes.

8:25 p.m. A possible drunk driver in a silver Pontiac car driving northbound was reported all over the road on Hwy 20 North. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

10:29 p.m. Two men fighting in the parking lot of a local bar were reported but when officers arrived the men were already gone.

Monday, August 17

3:30 p.m. A female was reported sitting by the river crying. An officer responded to the location but was unable to locate the person.

9:26 p.m. Someone reported finding a border-collie-mix dog with a pink or red collar and no tags. The reporting party decided to keep the dog until its owner could be located.

Circuit Court

Darren Leon Dumas was arrested on August 12 for failure to register his new address as a sex offender and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 21.

Patrick Dewayne Little has a probation revocation hearing continued to August 24.

Robert Lee Richter pled guilty at his arraignment on August 14 for theft, wrongful taking or disposal, and obtaining property by false pretence. For the three charges he was sentenced 180 days in jail with credit for one day, six months unsupervised probation, $40 court cost, and $150 victim compensation.

Births

Macie Rae Price was born Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Jaque Miller and Nathan Price of Worland, Wyo. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 20.5 inches long.
