National Day of the Cowboy

here are few things more iconic of America than the cowboy, and the National Day of the Cowboy seeks to celebrate this heritage. Started in 2005, the National Day of the Cowboy has been supported in many states with Wyoming being a supporter from day one.

You may think of a hundred different ways to celebrate this day: watch your favorite Western, go ride your or a friend’s horse, have a glass of whiskey at your local watering hole, go to a rodeo, or simply wander off to a quiet mountain overlook and imagine the way the West used to be … Whatever your way to celebrate, Hot Springs County residents are lucky to have all of these options and more available to them.

The Hot Springs County Fairgrounds will be hosting the Wyoming Junior Rodeo Association on July 25 and 26 where young cowboys and cowgirls will be competing in classic rodeo events such as roping, barrel racing, and steer/bull riding. Saturday morning, visit with local western artists and growers at the downtown Farmers Market.

Of course, the great Wyoming outdoors is always available to those who are still wild at heart and in love with the wide-open spaces that brought cowboys to this country in the first place.

So grab your boots, a horse, a truck, or whatever you have and get your cowboy on in your own western way.
