On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Thursday, May 14

3:25 p.m. Sheriff’s office was called about a potential child abuse case. The incident is under investigation.

8:41 p.m. A person was called in as suspicious on West Sunnyside Lane. The man was walking down the roadway wearing a camouflage trench coat. He was described as blond and heavyset. Deputies were unable to locate.

Friday, April 15

7:15 p.m. A call came into the Law Enforcement Center about a possible drunk driver. The vehicle was pulled over but the driver was found to not be impaired.

Tuesday, May 12

8 a.m. A person reported purchasing an air conditioner and had someone mess with it. The box had not been opened but the boxes’ black tape had been removed and replaced with white tape. Their washing machine had also been emptied and filled with pants.

5:25 p.m. Police were called about an argument between two men. One hit the other in the nose causing it to bleed. The fight broke out because of money owed and work to be completed.

Jeremy Smith, 44, was arrested for assault.

7:55 p.m. A person came to the law enforcement center because she needed help dealing with an ex boyfriend. Her ex came to her residence and asked her to buy him beer. She said no. He then allegedly took a swing at her, but she side stepped. He proceeded to leave. No physical violence occurred. The next day he called her and she ignored him. Then she went home and saw him parked at his mother’s house, so she drove away. He proceeded to follow her and cut her off while driving and slammed on his brakes. He then approached her vehicle and punched through a plastic barrier covering a window. No physical violence occurred. Police referred the person to the H.O.P.E. Agency in town.

Wednesday, May 13

11:44 a.m. Someone reported a possible IRS scam. The person received a phone call threatening a lawsuit.

12:09 p.m. A vehicle was hit by an unknown vehicle. The owner reported a hit and run.

1:37 p.m. Police received a call about a nuisance yard. Various items were in the yard. The property owner asked for 30 days to clean up their property.

Thursday, May 14

3:25 p.m. A two-vehicle collision occurred at 107 Warren. A vehicle backed into another vehicle.

Friday, May 15

11:46 a.m. Police received a report of a dispute about a property line and who has the right to use a property. The incident is under investigation.

Saturday, May 16

10:44 a.m. A person filed a trespass notice against another person. One person had been threatening the other.

7:23 p.m. Police received a report of a possible drunk driver. The driver was not maintaining their lane. When an officer caught up, they were not intoxicated.

7:45 p.m. A girlfriend left a guy but his wallet was still in her car. She wouldn’t answer her phone. So the male called the police and asked them to get his wallet. They obliged.

11:17 p.m. A man was stealing his significant other’s dog. While driving away the dog wanted to get in the front seat. Because the man was distracted with the dog, he hit another vehicle. That vehicle was pushed into another vehicle.

Sunday, May 17

12:53 a.m. A person reported they were being harassed by another person with an excessive number of text messages and phone calls. Police advised her to turn her phone off to avoid being harassed. The police also advised to keep a record of the harassment for future documentation.

2:45 P.M. Disturbance was reported at the high school commencement ceremonies. When an officer arrived the person making a disturbance had left. An officer stayed for the rest of the ceremony.

Monday, May 18

10:40 a.m. An El Camino with expired tags was going to be marked as abandoned, but the registration was current. The vehicle just didn’t have updated stickers.

10:52 a.m. The girlfriend of a woman’s soon to be ex husband wants to see their children. The mother called the police. The police talked to the girlfriend. The girlfriend said she only calls about once a month. The situation was documented.

Circuit Court

Jeremy Clyde Smith had his bond set at $1,000 cash following a battery charge.

Charles Robbins was given 180 days in jail for a domestic assault charge, with 180 days suspended. He was given six months of supervised probation and had $590 in fines and fees. He also was given nine days in jail for breach of peace, with nine days served. He was given $240 in fines and fees. Also, he was given 180 days in jail for interference with a police officer with 180 suspended, one year supervised probation and $590 in fines and fees.

James Randall Cauffman was born Tuesday, May 12, 2015 to Katie and Jonathan Cauffman of Laramie.

He weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Randall and Violet Olsen of Thermopolis and Douglas and Lydia Cauffman of Basin.

Brody Matthew Miller was born Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Brittany and Matthew Miller of Worland.

He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Bob and Kay Uffelman of Thermopolis and Dave and Sally Miller of Worland.

Wyatt Lee Nance was born Friday, May 8, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Kendra and Shawn Nance of Thermopolis, Wyo.

He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

Grandparents are Kenny and Sharon Silver of Pierce City, Mo. and Carl and Robyn Nance of Cassville, Mo.
