Bobcat tracksters headed to regionals

The Bobcat track team held their own Bobcat Invitational last Friday, in spite of rain, wind and chilly temperatures.

Twenty-five percent of the team didn't compete at the meet as many of the athletes were in Denver with the music department for Music in the Parks.

Twenty-three teams from around the state competed Friday with the Bobcat girls team taking eighth place with just four athletes scoring and the boys team taking seventh with only six athletes scoring.

Jules Ward led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 18 points. Choc Maddock brought in 24 of the 50 points scored by the boys team.

Head coach Ernie Mecca said the Bobcat Invitational is one of the largest meets in the state with 23 schools and over 500 athletes.

"I need to say a huge thank you to the 44 community and school volunteers that gave nearly eight hours of their time on Friday to work at the meet," Mecca said. "Without these faithful workers, this meet would not be possible.

"Another huge thank you to Jerry Apland and his maintenance team for their outstanding efforts to prepare our facility to host an event of this size. We have a first class facility."

Now the team looks forward to the Regional Championships in Lander this weekend and then on to State May 22-23.

"We're looking good," Mecca said. "This will be the first time all season we'll have a full team and everyone is pretty healthy. We've got some good chances on both teams to get more state qualifiers."

Mecca said he is hoping for a good finish to the season.

"Both teams have the potential to finish in the top three at State," he said. "We'll just have to see how things shake out."
