Tindermen continue breaking personal records

The Hot Springs County High School track team participated in two separate meets this past week, the Riverton Twilight meet Tuesday April 21 and the Riverside Invitational on Saturday.

"They were both good meets," head coach Ernie Mecca said. "We've got several double automatic qualifiers for state at this time and we came out of these fairly injury free."

Friday's meet in Riverside was a huge day for both teams with 13 personal records being set.

"Choc Maddock had a phenomenal day," Mecca said. "He led the team in scoring with 25 points for the day. It was an outstanding meet for him."

Freshman Hudson Roling has been "chomping at the bit" to qualify for state in one of his events and this weekend his prayer was answered, automatically qualifying for the mile.

According to Mecca, Domanic Jensen broke his own personal record in the mile on Friday as well.

"He's running stronger now after his injury," Mecca said.

If you look at next week's schedule, you'll see two meets scheduled for Saturday, one in Meeteetsee and the Track Classic in Casper.

The Track Classic involves the top 10 athletes in non-lane running events and the top eight athletes in lane specific events.

The Bobcats have two qualifiers for the Classic, Jules Ward and Tyler Cornwell.

Ward will be going to Casper in the 800M and the 3200M while Cornwell is still up in the air as to which direction he will go.

"Tyler (Cornwell) won the Classic in the triple jump last year," coach Mecca said. "But he's just coming off an injury. He's also on a relay team, so I may take him to Meeteetsee instead."

There are a few other Bobcats that are in the top 15 who may still qualify for the Classic before the week is out.

"Some athletes multiple qualify and may not compete in all their events," Mecca said. "That could potentially move one of our team into a top 10 or top eight slot.

"At this point, the list is changing almost hourly. We'll just have to wait to see how it shakes out."

The team is at a critical conditioning point at this time with just two weeks left in regular competition. Regionals will be held in Lander on May 15 and 16, followed by State in Casper, May 21-23.
