Athletes perform well at state USA wrestling

The Thermopolis USA wrestling club had 11 wrestlers compete at the Wyoming state wrestling championships this weekend.

Local wrestlers competed for three days in three different style tournaments in Casper.

Thermopolis USA Wrestling coach Travis McDermott said his wrestlers had to fight hard in order to bring home awards in this mega meet.

"With over 1600 wrestlers participating over the three days, this is the biggest wrestling tournament in Wyoming," McDermott said. "The tournament is grueling, especially for those competing in all three days."

Seven wrestlers competed in the freestyle tournament on Friday.

Austin Barral took 1st place in the novice 140 lb. weight division, Wyatt McDermott finished in 3rd place in the novice 80 lb. weight division, Ty Peterson placed 6th in the intermediate 60 lb. weight division and Colter Price took 6th place in the bantam 55 lb. weight division.
