    Daniel Powell|Apr 25, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School golf team was scheduled to travel to Sheridan last week, to play on the Powder Horn Golf Course - one of the premier private golf courses in the state. Unfortunately, and very disappointingly, weather conditions deteriorated towards the end of the week – resulting in the cancellation of that event. Coach Brandon Deromedi said, “We have tried for the last five years to get to play that outstanding golf course, but Mother Nature has always had other ideas. It would be really nice to have our golfers have a cha...

With a final team score of 114 points, the Bobcats finished in first place for the second time this season – toping teams who compete for far larger schools. After the event, coach Boone Bowker commented, “That was an all-around good showing for the Bobcats team. I’m e...

The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats Track Team were in Shoshoni on Friday, April 19, 2024 for the Shoshoni Invite track meet. Kendrick is a par 72, 18-hole public course that is fairly unique in its layout, having few bunkers and not a lot of trees. The event served as a good preview of a course many of the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats look forward to playing on in the state tournament. The Lady Cats registered four players for the event – Lilly J...

Hot Springs County High School Bobcat golf players opened their spring season last Friday at the Worland Invite, held at Green Hills Golf Club, an eighteen hole public course which boasts a rank of number three among public courses located in the state. The event was a first outing for most of those competing - leaving the golfers to face the effects of a long winter break from the sport. Conditions were not ideal, including a sustained wind of 25 miles per hour. Therefore, the scores put up by all of the competitors were not of the kind which...

  • Track season opens

    Daniel Powell|Mar 21, 2024

And, just like that, it’s track season! Hopefully, that means Mother Nature is finished with the cold and snow. Being as this is Wyoming, however, we know better than to hold our breath on that subject. The Bobcat track teams opened their season in Pavillion last Saturday with both the Bobcats and Lady Cats setting the scene for a great season to come. Twelve schools were in competition at the Wind River Icebreaker, competing in seventeen events for the boys teams, and the same number of events for the girls teams. Lady Cats At meet’s end, the...

  • STATE CHAMP! Quintanilla brings home first Lady Cats

    Daniel Powell|Feb 29, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats wrestling team sent five wrestlers to the All Class State Championships, which were held in Casper this past weekend. Considering there are just six members comprising the Lady Cats team, that was a quite impressive feat. Even more impressive, however, were the three state placers, and a first ever state champion, that came out of the event. Scoring in just four weight categories, the Lady Cats team finished the state championships tied at 9th place,...

Last week, the Hot Springs County High School Girls Basketball Team was on the road at Lander on Thursday and then came home for a game against Powell on Saturday. The Lady Cats faced two over five-hundred teams, and although they played a great first half against Powell, Thermopolis was unable to come away with a win in either game. The Lander Lady Tigers came into the week sporting a 10 and 9 record on the season, and played well against the Lady Cats, winning the game by a score of 57 to 36. The Lady Cats were playing their final road game f...

  • Bobcats drop two going into regionals

    Daniel Powell|Feb 29, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School Boys Basketball Team were on the road in Lander on Thursday and then returned home to face Powell on Saturday. After a gut-wrenching loss to Lander, the team then had the unenviable task of facing the undefeated team from Powell. After leading the Lander Tigers through the first three quarters, the Bobcats suffered a loss of focus in the fourth, that allowed Lander an opportunity to get back into the game. Jhett Longwell played a very effective low post in the game, which allowed Brody Potter to increase his...

The week ended with a win and a loss. The Worland Warriors came to town carrying a 9 and 10 record, and with stats showing they were evenly matched with the Bobcats. • Lady Cats win against Lady Warriors

    Daniel Powell|Feb 22, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School girls varsity basketball team was at home last week for games against Worland and then Pinedale. Following a great win against long-time rival, Worland, the Lady Cats ran into a scoring binge by the team from Pinedale. The Lady Warriors came into town with a four and fifteen record, however, statistically, the two teams showed parity on paper. The Lady Cats got started early, playing with confidence and determination at both ends of the court. Offensively, the Lady Cats passed the ball crisply, and strategical...

    Daniel Powell|Feb 22, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School girls basketball team traveled to Lovell last Friday, for a rematch of an in-conference game against the Lady Bulldogs. Maggie Landon made her first start on varsity in the contest, while Kamryn Farrell played through a lower body injury suffered earlier in the week. Injury or not, Farrell was unfazed, and finished the game as the...

  • Bobcats drop tough game to Lovell

    Daniel Powell|Feb 15, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School boys basketball team was in Lovell last Friday, for a conference game against the Bulldogs. The two teams had met just two weeks previously in Thermopolis – with the Cats coming out on the short-end of a very close game. The Bulldogs came into the weekend ranked third - sitting in second place in the division, and carrying a 14 and 4 record. While the two teams appeared evenly matched on the stats sheet, their records showed that the Cats were leading in turnovers – not a category in which a team really wan...

  • Wrestlers sidelined by Mother Nature

    Daniel Powell|Feb 15, 2024

The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat wrestling teams had been scheduled to attend the Buffalo Duals last weekend, however, Mother Nature had other plans. With an apparent snow filled storm brewing, the teams thought better of attempting to head over the pass, and focused instead on getting ready for regionals this weekend. While, consequently, both teams had the weekend off, coach Travis McDermott insisted on each wrestler making weight on Friday - to keep the team focused, and to maintain routines and regimens, which the wrestlers had...
